Minister Commissions Solar System At PHC

The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, has commissioned a Solar Powered Electricity system at Primary Healthcare Centre at Dutse Alhaji, Bwari Area Council, Abuja.
Speaking during the Commissioning Ceremony on Thursday 17th January, 2019, Dr. Ehanire who was represented by the Director, Public Private Partnership Unit, FMOH, Dr. Omobolale Olowu noted that it is a pilot project initiated and executed by the PVWater, the Federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Capital Territory Administration as Public Private Partnership in line with present Administration policy in the Health Sector.
He said “This installation provides solar – generated electricity and treated water which is safe for drinking, the provision of electricity and clean water are essential to service provision in any health care centre (PHC), and integral to diseases prevention and health promotion’’.
He further said that the project is unique as it was one of the few water projects providing treated water to the health facility and community.
Dr. Ehanire stressed that “ this project is a good example of private sector collaboration with Government in a public private partnership (PPP) arrangement where they have undertaken this installation at no cost to Federal Government and will recover their investment over time’’.
He commended PVWater and the FCTA for their technical support toward the Federal Ministry of Health’s effort to revitalize PHCs across the Country.
Earlier, in his remarks, the FCT Minister, Alhaji Muhammad Bello, represented by the Secretary, Health and Human Services, FCTA, Mallam Adamu Bappah, said ‘’ Dutse Alhaji PHC Centre is one of the busiest PHC Facilities in the Community and provides essential Maternal and Child health Care Services such Antenatal and Postnatal Care ,Delivery Services ,Immunization ,Laboratory Services among others’’
He pledged that the project would be extended to other PHC Facilities in other Area Councils in the FCT.
In his welcome address, the PVWater International Ltd, Nigeria, Dr. Anthony Ighodaro thanked the Minister of state health for the opportunity given to him to established innovative system on the premises of the Primary Health Centre (PHC), where its services would be available to the community.
In his presentation, the Managing Director, Sustainable Concepts, Dr. Hubert Auilch, pointed out that the present system was privately financed and needs to compete with any potable water system that does not have the same quality standards as water from PVWater.
Also speaking, the traditional ruler of Dutse Alhaji ,Alhaji Abubakar Bako, expressed delight for the project, adding that it would go a long way in providing access to healthcare and water to the people of the community.
