Highlight Of Response By Honourable Minister Of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire During The Presidential Task Force On COVID-19 Press Briefing Held On Tuesday, 2nd June, 2020
On the 20 Local Government Areas which contribute 60% COVID-19 positive cases:
The Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire said that it usually provides opportunity to zero-in if all cases are concentrated in an area; this is done through case finding, and then mop up so as to reduce movement in the area.
On what Primary HealthCare is doing:
The Honourable Minister said the Primary Healthcare has been actively involved in COVID-19 response; because they work in communities, they have pool of workers who are engaging the people all the time, they are familiar with the people and terrain, they engage in case finding as well as creating awareness among the people. Most of their activities, he said right now, are mainly supervisory, advisory, surveillance, contact tracing, infection prevention and control activities. They are working very hard in supporting the system. “They have a very important role to play in this phase. "Right now, the Executive Director is in Lagos trying to support the State in their own Strategy.”
On the welfare of frontline health workers:
To the question of Front Dr. Ehanire said that efforts are being made to give them the best of attention as they are the most valuable. “Priority is also being given to providing them with PPEs.” The NCDC is developing a protocol that will cater for Front Line Health workers, especially those that have been exposed to the infection, to get tested and monitored for any sign of the disease, so as to avoid further spread."
