The Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora has disclosed that the recent re-appointment to office of Professor Babatunde Lawal Salako’s as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Yaba, and the appointment of Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu as Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, Taraba State, Dr. Edet Bassey Eyo as Medical Director, Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Calabar and Dr. Agboola Afis Akanni as the Medical Director, Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Aro, Abeokuta, Ogun State are at the instance of the President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR whose instruction to get the best to be in charge of these medical institutions were just being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Health.

Dr. Mamora charged the new helmsmen of the medical institutions to note that they are at this point in time, the “most privileged and the most favoured as of now, and the least they owe to the larger society and to everybody is to give their best in service.”  He further charged them to start working on what they want to be remembered for, when they leave the position” they are being appointed to.

The Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora gave this charge whilst giving his welcome remark and presenting letters of appointment to the newly appointed helmsman for Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Yaba, Lagos; Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, Taraba State; Medical Director, Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Calabar and the Medical Director, Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Aro, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Tuesday, 18th August, 2020, the appointment which Mr. President has earlier made.

According to Dr. Mamora, Professor Babatunde Lawal Salako’s appointment was renewed as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Yaba, Lagos for a second term of 4 years with effect from 25th July, 2020;

The Honourable Minister of State for Health further disclosed that President Buhari was “gender sensitive” in approving the appointment of Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu as the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, Taraba State for an initial term of 4 years with effect from 25th March, 2020;

Dr. Edet Bassey Eyo, he said was also appointed as Medical Director, Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Calabar, Cross River State for an initial term of 4 years with effect from 24th March, 2020 and Dr. Agboola Afis Akanni as the Medical Director, Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Aro, Abeokuta, Ogun State for an initial term of 4 years with effect from 24th March, 2020.

While congratulating the appointees on behalf of the President, the Honourable Minister enjoined them to consider their appointment as a call to service, urging them to shun sycophants and to also draw their families closer these are “your first line of defense, ours is to advise you.”

Those present at the presentation of appointment letter event were the Board Chairman of Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Calabar, Kunle Dada; the Directors of the Federal Ministry of Health which include Dr. Mrs Adebimpe Adebiyi, mni, the Directors of Hospital Services; Dr. David Atunwo, the Senior Technical Assistant to the Honourable Minister of State; Dr. Nneka Orji, the Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of State for Health; Dr. Abisola Adegoke, Director in charge of Federal Medical Centres; Dr. Andrew Noah of the Department of Hospital Services; Mr. Michael Ogunsola, Personal Assistant to the Honourable Minister of State for Health; Olujimi Oyetomi, the Director, Media and Public Relations, the relatives and well-wishers of the appointees and a host of others.
