The Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire has said that " hardworking, focused and dedication is ingredients of reward and motivation."
Dr. Ehanire disclosed this when the Awardees from the Ministry’s extraction the Chief Medical Director, University Teaching Hospital Maiduguri, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo and the Chief Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre Ebute-Meta, Lagos, Dr. Adedamola Dada, presented the Certificate of National Productivity Order of Merit Award to the Minister and the Management of Federal Ministry of Health at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja recently.
“National Productivity Order of Merit, An order of Honour and Dignity which entitles YOU to all the rights and privileges as applicable to other National Honours/Award winners’’ which is conferred only by the President and Commander-In-Chief of Armed Forces.
The Minister stated that the performances of the CMD’s in their respective hospitals enabled the Ministry to nominate them for the Award.
Continuing, Dr. Ehanire disclosed that the Chief Medical Director, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo was appointed in 2018 amidst the devastating Boko Haram insurgency. He was challenged by the overwhelming systematic weakening of the primary and secondary healthcare system in many parts of North-East sub-region due to the traumatizing impact of the insurgence.
The Minister further informed that Prof. Ahidjo, armed with enormous academic, community and administrative experience, he promptly undertook a Needs Assessment and formulated strategies and plans to deal with the challenges of providing high quality tertiary health care in a challenging environment. These actions catapulted the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital into an acclaimed first class hospital of repute.
Dr.Osagie stated that Prof. Ahidjo’s creativity spurred to explore various opportunities at the national and international levels for upgrading infrastructure and enhancing services at the hospital; consequently, with the support of President, the Ministry of Health, State Government and other key partners, he initiated many landmark projects and activities to realize his vision and mission.
The Minister further informed that the Chief Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre Ebute-Meta, Lagos, Dr. Adedamola Dada was nominated for the Award for his tenacity, drive and determination towards reducing health tourism and bringing succor to Nigerians by providing quality service in the health sector.
Continuing, Dr. Ehanire stated that since the assumption of office of Dr, Dada in the last four years, the hospital has become the best reference point in quality service and remained the only federal public institution on level 4 Savecare Quality service in Nigeria- an international accreditation programme by the International Society for Quality Healthcare (ISQua).
Speaking further, the Minister disclosed that under the leadership of Dr. Adedamola, the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta remains the only Federal Government hospital that has all clinical and patient operations completely digitized, achieved huge improvement in internally generated revenue due to quality service delivery. Patient utilization increased by over 250%, ICU care increased by over 1000%, dialysis sessions increased by over 800%, Neonatal intensive care increased by 500% amongst others, all within the first few years of Dr. Adedamola’s appointment.
Dr. Ehanire revealed that FMC, Ebute-Metta has received over 20 study tours from other secondary and tertiary hospitals in Nigeria including a peer review session for all hospitals in Nigeria by the Hon. Minister of Health. The electronic medical records model intiated under Dr. Dada’s administration has been adopted in 12 other institutions in Nigeria,
The Minister therefore, urged the two achievers, administrators and strategists to use the wealth of their knowledge, experience and hardwork to appreciate the Awards conferred on them by Mr. President.
