Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched the Nigeria's Health
Sector Renewal Compact between the Federal, the 36 States Government and
Development Partners.
He unveiled the Compact while Commemorating the 2023 World Universal
Health Coverage Day with the Theme: Health for All, Time for Action held
recently at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor
Ali Pate expressed appreciation to the President for placing the Health and
Social well-being of Nigerians as a key part of his administration's Renewed
Hope Agenda.
According to him, “good health is core to harnessing Nigeria's
greatest asset, its human capital, is at the heart of our relentless efforts to
ensure that all Nigerians are on the path to have access to improved quality
health services and without financial hardship.”
Pate revealed that the increased allocation of the Federal
Government’s budget to health and social sectors in the proposed 2024
appropriation demonstrated its unprecedented will to addressing the financial
gaps that have limited Nigeria from achieving an efficient, equitable and
quality health systems.
He announced that the strategic blue print anchored around Nigeria's
progress in UHC is geared towards saving lives, reducing both physical and financial
pain, improve population health outcomes, accountability, maternal and childbirth,
governance, affordable and quality health services for all Nigerians.
The Minister stated that the sector-wide compact is a bold effort to
creating opportunities for medical reforms and implementation of the National
Health Act.
He stated that by signing
the Compact “we are agreeing to align our objectives with the priorities
articulated in the Renewed Hope Agenda Sector Blue print pillars.
While unveiling the strategic health renewal plan, President Ahmed
Tinubu announced that his admiration is committed to revamping
the Health Sector, tackling infrastructure issues and improving health care services
at affordable rates.
He added that there must be collaborations between the Federal,
State and Development Partners to achieve the feat.
Tinubu stated that developed countries should not only recruit medical
professionals from Nigeria but also invest in the Nigerian healthcare system
Chairman of the Nigeria Governor’s Forum, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq who
was accompanied by most of the Governors pledged support for the signed Compact
on Universal Health Coverage.
Earlier, Minister of State, FMOH&SW, Dr Tunji Alausa stated that
“the Theme for the 2023 UHC day reminds us of the urgency and necessity of our endeavours”
adding that with the support of the stakeholders, commitments are translated
into action and tangible improvements in healthcare delivery.
